19th Oct 2011 We’re wearing Pink for Breast Cancer Day on 28th October 2011.

On Friday 28th October 2011 Dauntons will be participating in Wear It Pink Day.  Wear It Pink Day was set up by the Breast Cancer Campaign charity to raise money for cancer research.

At the moment the charity is currently supporting 101 research projects valued over £17.2 million in 34 centres throughout the UK and Ireland.  Last year they managed to raise over £2 million pounds, we hope to try and beat it this year.

Nowadays it is hard to find someone who has not been affected by breast cancer one way or another.  To help raise money for a cause close to all of our hearts, here at Dauntons we shall be having a very pink day.

Our aim is to get everyone dressed in pink, not just an item of clothing but head to toe pink.  The wigs and tutus have been ordered so we have done our bit but it would be great if we could actually raise some money.  If you would like to donate to the cause there is a pink collection box in our office reception, we’d love to see you.  Every penny helps.

17th Oct 2011 Beating the winter blues in Pimlico

Darker nights, shorter days, repeats on TV, a long slog until the next holiday and the expense of Christmas all loom large at the end of the year.

For some, as we turn back the clocks and turn up the heating, the difficulties of life can become overwhelming.

Recognising this is a problem, the Victoria Medical Centre patient participation group has organised an evening session on the subject.

Entitled Beating the Winter Blues, the event will have qualified medical professionals on hand to talk about strategies for avoiding depression, how to manage and where to go for help if everything gets too much.

Open to anyone, the event takes place from 5.30pm to 8pm on October 20 at the Victoria Medical Centre, in Upper Tachbrook Street.

12th Oct 2011 Join a Halloween walk around Haunted Victoria organised by Victoria BID

Haunted Victoria

Join a Halloween walk around Haunted Victoria organised by Victoria BID which will take you to some of Victoria’s famous landmarks and less well-known buildings. There are plenty of fascinating, spooky tales about this historic area’s real and supernatural past.  Haunted Victoria promises to unveil the magic and mystery that lies hidden behind Victoria’s sober stone and steel facades…

Victoria is an area drenched in history, spiritual symbolism and tales of strange, ghostly apparitions. Learn to distinguish between the true stories, myths and paranormal tales associated with two of London’s great churches, Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.  The walk will unearth some of the most haunted steps in England and unveil grim anecdotes about Victoria’s bloody past. Known for its bustling shops and offices, Victoria Street straddles the site of the notorious 17th century Tothill Fields Prison (pictured) within one of the oldest districts in London, Westminster.

Visit some of the dark passageways dotted across the SW1 area towards the walk’s climax; an exceptionally rare opportunity to explore the secret underground rooms and vaults of the old Army & Navy building beneath House of Fraser.  Today, the building lies unused and empty, apart from a few ghostly sounds in the dead of night…

You’ll be brought back to present reality and invited to join your fellow haunted walk guests and guide for a complimentary cup of steaming hot chocolate, courtesy of Victoria BID, before you send you off into the dark night.

The starting place for the walks is outside the Victoria Palace Theatre.

To join one of the walks please contact Rozanne: rozanne.shipman@inSW1.com  or 020 3004 0789

Thursday 27th October:  6pm-7:30pm

Friday 28th October:  6pm-7:30pm

Tuesday 1st November:  6pm-7:30pm

Please wear comfortable shoes (no heels) and warm casual clothes  (All participants will need to sign a disclaimer and personal liability waiver form before they depart)

With thanks to House of Fraser for granting inSW1 permission to enter the former Army & Navy Store.

17th May 2011 Walking Tours in SW1

This year Victoria BID’s guided summer walks programme coincides with the first UK wide National Walking Month and RHS Chelsea Flower Show with a series of garden walks during May. Victoria, Pimlico and Belgravia are arranged around public and private squares. There are routes planned for this opening series that access some of the private squares for free, revealing their fascinating history and horticultural detail. Participating walkers can view the gardens at their best this spring – in full bloom.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR – The BID have introduced three talks in June, which complement the commentary of the existing walks for those wanting a more in depth history.

The walking tours will run throughout the summer months through to September and we will be taking part in both Open Squares and the popular Open House London weekends. Details for Open House will be confirmed nearer the time.

All of the walks are FREE. You may book as many as you wish, but do book as groups are small and places are limited, they were very popular last year!
