It is Mayor Johnson's pet project and its is due to launch on the 30th July (although we hear it might be a month behind schedule). The Cycle Hire scheme, sposored by Barclays is a public bycycle sharing scheme for short journeys in and around Central London. The idea is that you pick up a bycycle, use it as you like and then drop it off at one of the 400 special docking stations, ready for use by the next person.
More information can be found here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/12444.aspx
The first docking station to make its appearance in Pimlico is in Guildhouse Street. There will be 6 others in the immediate area: By Tachbrook Street Market and on the junction of Tachrook and Churton Street, on Belgrave Road (outside the passport office) and at the Gloucester Street junction, one on St George's Drive by St Gabriel's church and another just off Lupus Street in Alderney Street.
